HAPPY NEW YEAR

By now the tinsel is either off your tree or looking a little less sparkling with joy. If you decorate for the holidays, there are trees to take down, wreaths to store and garland to mess with again (the box is never big enough). It took me two days to transform my living room from the magic of Christmas 2021 to what I hope will be the everyday magic of 2022.

I didn’t put on Christmas carols while wrapping the ornaments, but listened to various podcasts about – you know, murder mysteries. There are so, so many of them, it’s hard to keep up.

And I finished the last of the baked goods that we bought, or made or were gifted. That’s a lot of calories that got consumed in a short about of time and boy the scale did not lie. I stopped weighing myself by the 20th and just promised to get back on track in January.

So, here we are on January 5th, the boxes of decorations are packed and ready to go to the garage and I’m feeling fabulous – because I just remembered that I froze half of the cinnamon bread my good friend Robert brought over a few weeks ago. And after dinner, I will enjoy every slice with hot tea, please. There will be nothing left (my husband will help me with this) and I will savor every spicy crumb because tomorrow I’ll be walking, not just my normal steps, but also thousands of extra ones to keep my promise to stay on track. And although promises are meant to be broken, I’d like to keep this one.

Happy New Year to me!
