THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
Summer is waning. But soon it’ll get hotter than the 72-and-sunny California vibe we’ve been lucky to have had lately. There’s a relentless call for ice cream in the air.
And kids are returning to school – in-person-school, with friends and teachers and backpacks full of work. New clothes, too. My friends’ kids and my grandkids are excited to be back in the classroom in spite of the Covid restrictions. There’s an eagerness to get back to normal. It’s seems like an overwhelming feeling of “getting out.” You can see it in their first-day-of-school faces that are circulating on social media.
Have they gotten used to the masks and the distancing - and their pods?
But it’s not business as usual, of course. The pandemic is still raging and the threat of this virus with its sneaky variant is causing many of us to rethink our routines once again. But what about the kids? Especially those who can’t get vaccinated, even if they wanted to. Parents are tasked once again to navigate the pandemic with their families as they step outside. It’s a slippery slope.
But summer is still here. Covid-19 is still here and a bowl of ice cream, however glorious, is not going to make it go away.
