FACE MASKS

I’ve been experimenting with DIY facial masks forever. I’ve tried masks with avocado, banana, egg whites and yogurt. I’ve added lemon, rolled oats, milk, cucumbers and honey in various recipes that sound good enough to eat. They’re fun to make and use, but if you’re in a hurry or don’t have the right bowls and brushes, it can get messy. And there’s always left overs that you have to store in the fridge and remember to use in a few days. I’m not trying to discourage anyone from trying these concoctions, but I do encourage you to research ALL the ingredients in a recipe to make sure you’re not allergic or sensitive to these basic kitchen staples. And some skin care experts will warn you against using egg whites as a risk factor for salmonella or lemon juice that might make your skin temporarily sun-sensitive.

I definitely have my at-home favorites and these days typically opt for clay masks. I just add a little water to the dry powder, brush on with a cosmetic brush and wash off. It’s worth it for the soothing, relaxing time off your feet for a few minutes. You can’t eat it, but it won’t go bad in the fridge and you can save the avocados for your guacamole. Ole!
