WATER COLORS
We moved to an old house but the master bedroom was added on much later and it didn’t have the same charm as the rest of the home. It was downright odd with high little windows and a weird closet that functioned well, but looked like a big box that was tacked on the end of the room. I wanted our bedroom to not just have charm, but also look serene; my husband wanted a sense of security. Quite the challenge.
So, we decided to paint – that would fix everything! I leaned toward the blues and he was looking at greens and then we started to look at everything in between. I was overwhelmed. At some point, I spotted a color that was “interesting.” I put swatches on the walls and it appeared to be a bluish-greenish-grayish, depending on where in the room the swatch was placed. But somehow, the color worked. It had a calming effect and at the same time, it grounded the space.
After we chose this color, my daughter-in-law sent me some beach pictures of their Hawaiian vacation. And I could see it – our wall color. It reminded me of the beach water with its greens and blues and grays all blended together. No wonder, the color worked. It was the natural and ever-changing ocean colors in Paradise. The rest of her Hawaiian picture with the golden sand and dark rock mimicked the colors of our blonde wood floor and black furniture. And coincidentally the area rug we already had was called Landscape. Now the room with the odd-shaped windows feels serene and secure and the funky closets are downright charming.
